TRADITIONAL MADNESS

 

Nissan’s GT-R lineup is one that has stood the test of time, etching itself into the books of automotive history with a legacy spanning more than five decades. During this time, these cars have amassed a religious following across the globe – and for good reason!

Apart from exceptional motorsport history and a strong presence in mainstream media, the GT-R is a special set of cars because it captures the desire for an immaculate driving experience – it is this humility and integrity that draws millions to the Godzilla.

Although GT-Rs have been regularly featured on the-lowdown’s instagram, each build is incredibly special and bound to bring a smile to our faces when we see them. Whether it’s a mean Bayside Blue R34 or the menacing R33 that is the star of this feature, GT-Rs are always welcome!

Subharta’s meticulously built R33 keeps things traditional, all the while enhancing the Godzilla’s raw power.

ORIGIN STORY

 

Subharta (Subi) discovered his love for cars back in 2004 – this was also the exact moment he knew that he wanted to own a GT-R at some point in his life. Subi dipped his toes into the world of Nissan with a Primera as his first car which had the trusted SR20DET engine that pumped out an impressive 362HP / 270KW at the wheels.

Having sold the Primera, Subi was now in the market for a GT-R. Although he was initially considering an R32, he actually stopped searching until he came across the R33 that he owns now back in 2017. It was love at first sight – it “felt special about everything it had”.

Now that he had the car of his dreams, it was time to get started with the build that would take it to the next level.

Subi started the modification process by upgrading the R33’s turbos, cam shafts and gears, and injectors. These upgrades beef up the V6’s already incredible performance. For the moment, he plans on squeezing every mile out of the OEM engine after which has a fully built RB30 in mind.

This GT-R sits on a set of TE37SLs which succeeded a set of LMGT4s – this is supported by BC gold coilovers with air cup suspensions that result in a menacing stance while ensuring practicality.

Putting it all together

THE BALANCING ACT

 

One of the most defining features of this build is the way it looks – harmoniously bringing together elements of the GT-R’s racing heritage with a set of NISMO upgrades.

This R33 features NISMO’s 400R flares, rear bumper, and decals. All of this results in a truly iconic aesthetic that sets it apart from the rest.

THE ROAD AHEAD

 

Although Subi has brought his GT-R a long way with this build, he still has plenty in store for this car with a clear set of goals. As mentioned earlier, he already knows that eventually the current engine will be swapped out for a fully built RB30 – his goal is to reach herculean, four-digit horsepower figures.

This R33 truly is one of a kind and clearly the result of a lot of patience, hard work, and creativity – all of which was made possible with the help of the suppliers, Subi’s friends, and his partner.
