McLaren has unveiled a true performer for the street and track with the first model in its Sports Series, the 570S Coupe. The new Sports Series now joins the Super Series and Ultimate series to complete a three tier McLaren range.
The 570S is a classic sports car with a mid-engined rear wheel drive layout and carbon fibre structure. Its got a twin turbo V8 engine which features 30 percent new components.
Power output as the name suggests is 570PS, that’s 418kW (562 HP) with a 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds (competing at the same level with a Porsche 911 Turbo) and a top speed of up to 328 km/h.
All of that power is delivered through a seven-speed SSG transmission, and transferred to the road through the rear wheels. Stopping force is handled by carbon ceramic brakes, fitted behind a newly designed range of forged alloy wheel options with P Zero™ Corsa tyres as standard, Pirelli 225/35/R19 on the front and 285/35/R20 on the rear.
The unique carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis has been newly designed to focus on day-to-day usability. This lightweight structure, and the use of aluminium body panels contributes to a dry weight as low as 1,313 kilograms.
McLaren is advertising the 570S as the most usable, practical and attainable model to date and has added a new segment to their market with this new introduction. ‘The new Sports Series is aimed at a new audience for McLaren,’ explains Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive. ‘It’s the first time we’ve competed in the sports car as opposed to the supercar market.’
Australian pricing and availability for the McLaren 570S has not yet been announced, though a local debut is likely to happen in early 2016.
