Late last year, Ferrari unveiled its track-only special prototype based on a street legal LaFerrari, named the FXX-K. Set to go into production this year, the company has now released a quick video demonstrating how the FXX-K is made.
FXX-K is part of Ferrari’s research and development programme centered around a laboratory car based on Maranello’s first hybrid. Power output is 633kW from its 6.2 litre V12 revving up to 9250 RPM. Ferrari claims that this can be further boosted by 139kW through the use of the FXX-K’s electric motor.
The engine has had a few modifications and mechanical changes in comparison to the LaFerrari. This includes new camshafts, a revised valve train, polished intake manifolds and a completely new unsilenced exhaust.
Thanks to a significantly re-worked body, there’s more than 50 percent more downforce in the FXX-K over the base LaFerrari. Changes to the front splitter, rear winglets, and side skirts make controlling this car as easy as it sprints.
The video released by Ferrari doesn’t actually give much insight into how the car is made, instead offering hints behind the design process from Maranello.
The Ferrari FXX-K will never be used in competition, so no race teams will officially adopt it. Additionally, those few lucky owners who have one will never quite own them, so to speak.
The FXX-K is part of Ferrari’s Corse Cliente program, meaning Ferrari keeps and maintains the car. When an owner wants to take the car for a drive, Ferrari needs to be told when and where before they have it shipped over to the destination.
