When the word ‘Supercar’ is mentioned, what comes to mind? An Italian manufacturer? A Swedish one? What about a Lebanese manufacturer? That’s right, Lebanon has produced its first supercar and it’s featured (smashing its way through the high-rise Etihad towers) in the upcoming blockbuster Furious 7.
So who is this Lebanese manufacturer you ask? Their name is W Motors. Established in Beirut, Lebanon in 2012, W Motors relocated to Dubai in 2013 and soon after launched their first prototype model the ‘Lykan HyperSport’ at the 2014 International Qatar Motor Show.
With only a limited run of 7 units and priced at a shy $3.4 million USD, this Arabian supercar is amongst one of the most expensive in the world.
The Lykan Hypersport is powered by a flat 6-cylinder 3.7 litre twin-turbo mid-rear engine from Porsche, producing 552 kW (740HP) and 960 nm whilst claiming 0 – 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds (the same as a McLaren P1) with a maximum speed of a blistering 385 km/h (245 mph).
Thankfully the Lykan HyperSport design engineers have kept well away from the extreme styling that we’ve become accustomed to seeing in Dubai (chrome vinyl wraps and diamante additions), to an extent. The headlights are actually made up of a titanium blade encrusted with 420 diamonds and the taillights with sapphire.
To justify the price tag, you also have a 24-hour dedicated concierge service (no idea how helpful this would be in Australia) and a ‘free’ $250,000 Cyrus Klepcy watch. So in saying that, who wants a Ferrari LaFerrari plus a McLaren P1 for the same price instead? We sure do.
Furious 7 premieres in Australia on April 2nd. Take a sneak peek at the Lykan HyperSport stunt featurette in the video below.
