First cars are always special. For most of us they were nothing particularly unique, fast or good-looking, but your first love as a car person will always stay with you. The independence you get from finally earning the keys to your own car marks a turning point for anyone, and for some that first ride is just too important to let go of. Areis has had this Civic since his final year of high school. The two of them have been through a lot of ups and downs together, and this is the outcome.
Areis starts, “I chose the Honda Civic FD2 for its reliability being my first car. I love the shape of the car and a few mates of mine had them and I always enjoyed being in their Civics.”
Modding cars is something that very few people get right the first time. Areis’ experience was no different. “The first mods I did on this car were lowering springs, angel eye headlights and LED taillights,” laughs Areis. “Realised I preferred the ‘less is more’ approach and got rid of the ricey parts.”
As Areis learnt more about how to get the look he wanted, he made the switch from lowering springs to coilovers and a different set of wheels.
“I bagged the car because I couldnt get low enough on my set of coils. I purchased the kit off a good mate for cheap.” It was a no-brainer, an opportunity too good to pass up.
“Being my first car, I wanted to learn about it. Most of the mods were DIY’ed including the air setup,” Areis explains. Adding to the car’s exterior in a big way are the Mugen side skirts and lips front and rear.
Early this year the final combination came together to produce what you see here. “I finished building this car in mid January with the fitting of my BBS RS and last pair of camber bolts,” says Areis. “It’s a great car to drive and I enjoy driving low. Also the looks I get when I’m driving make me happy as people acknowledge my hard work.”
Now it seems the journey for this car is winding down. Areis has done what he wanted and is looking for something new. “I want to upgrade to a 06-07 Subaru STI,” he says. A big change from this Civic, but no doubt Areis will give it his own touch. “Just wanted to thank my boys and Stanceslutz for helping me out in the build.”
