More than ten years have passed since Michael and I met for the first time. We were high school kids back then, from two different parts of the city, but we were both crazy about cars. Pretty soon we had earned our licenses, and I watched Michael go through the gamut of emotions as a car owner, from the thrill of buying his first ride to the heartbreak of having one stolen. Since then we have both owned a number of cars, but even as day-dreaming teenagers I don’t think either of us imagined that the keys to an R34 GT-R would be ours any time soon.
But we should’ve dreamt bigger. Just over a year ago I received a phone call from Michael about the potential purchase of ‘John’s GT-R’, as it was known. At the time Michael owned a cleanly modified S2000, and he had been contemplating some elaborate modifications for it, so his call about the Skyline came out of the blue. But it all made sense. The bulk of the work was already finished on the BNR34 here, and what remained was simply tweaking to taste.
There’s no doubt that the Skyline GT-R is the crowning glory of Nissan’s automotive production history. Every incarnation has pushed the boundaries of accessible performance motoring, and the GT-R badge firmly deserves it’s reputation as a formidable force. This particular example has been served a large dose of premium upgrades. It’s legendary RB26DETT motor effortlessly pushes 360kW to the wheels.
The build of this car has been a long one, and while it may seem finished to most people, there is still more to come. The full spec list is at the bottom of this post and it is worth a thorough going over, but before that enjoy these few photos of what a brutal BNR34 should look like.
